THE CARD GAME
The devil challenged God one day To a card game for all of man. God knew that devil was a cheat But, He too, had a plan.
Hand by hand was played, With the devil winning most. God just sat back calmly And listened to Satan boast.
Satan's favorite suit was diamonds Because it reminded him of wealth and power. And he conjured them into pairs and flushes As the game lasted hour by hour.
His favorite card was the joker And he produced quite a few. The joker was his symbol Of how he tricks me and you.
God never seemed flustered As the devil laid out each hand. The devil knew he had Him It was time to make his grand stand.
The devil suddenly changed the stakes One hand for "winner takes all." Indignantly laying down five aces, He sneered at God and said "I call."
But the card game was over. The devil knew he had lost. When God laid down one single card; The King of Hearts upon a cross.
